On God's Path: The Unfolding Story of Humanity
by S. Craig George
From the preface:
"This book is about the story of humanity. It is a story that has been told with certainty in many widely divergent versions. Despite so many different versions, we would probably all agree that at the root there must be one true story. In our generation the stories seem to turn on two different centers: science and religion. The theme of this book is that the circles of science and religion are not mutually exclusive, but complementary in a much bigger picture. New insights may be available to those who can expand their thinking to connect both circles into a single elegant ellipse which turns on both centers."
How the book is structured:
On God's Path is structured chronologically with each chapter focussed on a period of time important in the development of humanity. The overall sweep of time is from the first moment of the cosmos to the present and into the future. For each of these periods scientific, religious and historical views are explored and, in many cases, harmonized. Pertinent religious texts are examined; these texts are mostly from the Bible, but texts of other traditions are included as well. Following are the chapter headings and their associated time frames:
Chapter 1 Introduction
Chapter 2 The Genesis of the Cosmos 13.7 Billion to 6 million B.C.E.
Chapter 3 The Path of Humanity 6 Million to 800 B.C.E.
Chapter 4 The Axial Age 800 to 200 B.C.E.
Chapter 5 Jesus 6 B.C.E. to 27 C.E.
Chapter 6 Development & Fragmentation 200 B.C.E. to 1900 C.E.
